Our Calgary Environmental operation is rapidly expanding and we have a need to add additional staff in several areas during these exciting times for our company. 

Job Duties:

• Conducts client meetings and/or conference calls to address issues, needs analysis and trouble shooting of company profile set up and maintenance to ensure client satisfaction is achieved and business potential is maximized.
• Work closely with outside sales staff to grow Maxxam’s market share with existing and new clients.
• Fundamental understanding of Maxxam’s QC policies as it pertains to reportable results.
• Proactively ensures overall satisfaction of client base including communication to management team as appropriate.
• Uses innovative and proactive methods to ensure core performance standards and business goals as measured by scorecards, coaching sessions and key performance indicators are achieved.
• Provides clients with accurate, consistent and timely information, consulting with appropriate resources when required.
• Researches all client inquiries to complete resolution, enter corresponding orders / quotes with complete documented follow-up.
• Provides clear, concise and accurate information to operations as it pertains to client projects (including, but not limited to rush and ongoing projects).
• Reports analytical results to clients within expected turn around times (TATs). If necessary, provide clear and concise instructions based on report findings (results, QC, etc).
• Adheres to Maxxam Code of Ethics Policy
• Supports and complies with all Maxxam policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program
• Participates, when requested in department and health and safety meetings
• Participates, when requested in internal and external audits
• Keeps work area clean, neat and organized

Qualifications:

• University degree or college diploma in Sciences, preferably chemistry or environmental related and/or equivalent experience.
• Experience in a laboratory environment an asset.

• Ability to work independently as well as engage others when required in escalation of concerns to meet the client needs or to best manage client disappointments.

·         Ensures and maintains TAT directives for department

Qualifications:

• A level of education, which culminates with a certificate at a minimum or a diploma (preferred). This must be acquired through recognized educational institution in the field of study (e.g. SAIT)
• 5 years of experience

Maxxam has an opportunity for an Assistant General Manager for our Edmonton environmental laboratory. The Edmonton lab serves a number of important national clients and has been seeing steady growth. The Assistant General Manager will provide the lab with strong leadership and ensure efficient use of human, equipment and financial resources. The manager will also facilitate the production of high quality defensible data, safely and on-time. 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES: 

• Leadership in the area of Health and Safety, environmental compliance and sustainability.
• Production planning and management of staffing and instrument utilization. Monitors turn-around times and prioritize activities to meet the required due dates.
• Manages financial performance; prepares annual budgets and capital requests.
• Provides technical leadership, approves standard operating procedures (SOPs) and implements Quality protocols consistent with Maxxam’s policies and procedures.

Reporting to the Western Regional EHS Advisor, the EHS Coordinator is responsible for coordinating health and safety initiatives for our Fort McMurray Operations as well as providing support to the Regional Advisor. 

Responsibilities

o        Leadership in Promoting and fostering the development of a world-class safety culture.

o        Promote and maintain a positive work environment for all employees.

o        Liaise with clients on-site representatives to ensure EHS compliance.

o        Track and maintain EHS statistics (leading and lagging indicators) and documentation.

o        Know and apply the company’s safety policy and relevant sections of the OHS Legislation.

o        Ensure adherence to and implementation of the HSE program at each location.

o        Regularly communicate to staff on health and safety issues through Safety Meetings, JHSC meetings (chair or co-chair) and lead worksite inspections / observation tours.

o        Educate and train employees in the area of health and safety in the workplace.

o        Create buy-in from employees towards reporting of incidents and encourage near miss reporting

o        Aid in the completion of internal safety audits and to preparing for external safety audits.

o        Assist in facilitating the injury management programs.

o        Coordinate and ensure Health & Safety Program orientation is provided to new employees

o        Assist in the arrangement of medical (including transportation) as required in case of injury or illness.

o        To investigate all incidents, and to advise management on appropriate corrective actions.

o        Participate in the hazard assessment development and review processes

Qualifications:
This position typically requires a post secondary education in a related field (i.e. degree, certificate or diploma) as well as 2 to 3 years of experience in a similar capacity.   Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered. Additional qualifications include, but are not limited to:

• Experience in managing and auditing H&S management systems
• Knowledgeable with Workers Compensation and Return to Work programs
• Strong knowledge of provincial and federal safety regulations
• Strong presentation, oral and written communication skills
• Valid Class 5 Drivers license (travel within the region will be required)
• Excellent problem solving skills

·         Leading analytical training activities for junior analysts

·         Developing, validating and verifying test methods

·         A formal education in a related field of study acquired through a recognized educational institution, which culminates with a certificate or a diploma.

·         3 to 5 years of experience in laboratory environment will also be acceptable, providing they can demonstrate working knowledge of analytical testing and quality systems appropriate for the position.

·         Excellent up to date knowledge of laboratory process and automation.

·         Dynamic, energetic, motivated, positive outlook, with a "can-do" attitude to be able to work in a fast paced lab environment.

·         Strong leadership and communication skills.
